Materia Medica Herb Course: An In Depth Look at 50 Medicinal Plants

Materia Medica is a term for the science or study of any substances used for healing; their preparation, properties, uses, and effects. In this monthly series you will gain an understanding of the herbal pharmacy, one plant at a time.

Five to eight plants will be covered in each two hour class. We’ll discuss how each plant works in the body, its habitat and ecology, harvesting, and processing.  Medicine making tips, medicinal uses, formulation, and specifics from my experience with clients will also be explored in depth.

Reliable, detailed information about individual medicinal plants is vital to becoming an effective herbalist. This is what allows you to determine which plant would be best in a given situation, and how to make high quality medicine with it. Materia Medica is the foundation on which all herbal knowledge is built, and will help you to increase your competence as an herbalist.
